Expectations
Board Member Responsibilities
FAIR Board members commit to active engagement and shared accountability. We value quality over quantity and design our governance to be accessible and meaningful.

Quarterly Meetings
Attend four board meetings annually, scheduled with flexibility and advance notice to accommodate diverse schedules.

Committee Service
Serve on at least one standing committee aligned with your expertise and interests (Governance, Programs, Development, or Finance).

Strategic Advising
Contribute insights on organizational strategy, program development, fundraising approaches, and community partnerships.

Financial Participation
Participate in annual "give or get" contribution in a way that's meaningful and accessible to you—we value commitment over amount.

Ambassador Work
Represent FAIR professionally in your networks, share our impact stories, and help open doors to new opportunities.
Who We're Looking For
FAIR seeks Board members who bring diverse perspectives, professional skills, and genuine commitment to our mission. We especially welcome leaders with lived experience in the communities we serve.
Ideal Qualities
  • Professional expertise in nonprofit management, finance, fundraising, marketing, law, or community development
  • Deep commitment to racial equity and youth empowerment
  • Integrity, collaboration, and accountability in all actions
  • Community influence and authentic relationships with diverse networks
  • Willingness to ask hard questions and engage in equity-centered governance
Experience Matters
We value board experience but also welcome first-time Board members with passion and perspective.
Lived Experience
Your community knowledge and personal story are as valuable as professional credentials.
Time Commitment
We design governance to be accessible—expect 3-5 hours monthly including meetings and committee work.
